Run VM Directly from Backup

Got mission critical production VM which can afford no more than a few minutes of downtime and interruption? Ahsay's newly developed VM Run Direct feature allows you to keep the downtime of your mission critial VM within minutes, as you can now run the VM directly from backup without the need to restore the backed up image into the original VMware ESXi / Hyper-V host first. Ahsay starts the VM directly from its backup image, and makes it accessible to users on the target VMware ESXi / Hyper-V VM host right away.

Create a VMware / Hyper-V backup set as usual. For VMware, Run Direct is only applicable to ESXi paid version with CBT feature enabled.

Run Direct is only applicable to local destination backup. When creating a local destination backup, check the Run Direct option.

If you want to run the backed up VM, select the VM in the Restore section.
 

Here, you can set how to run the VM. If you don't want to overwrite the original VM, make sure the select "Restore to Alternate Location"

Input the alternate VM host info here.
 

Make sure you select an alternate storage for restore so as not to overwrite the original VM.
 

Check the summary of your alternative location info.
 

The restore will create a new UUID. Click "Yes" to proceed.
 

The VM will be run when the restore process completes. It'll be done within minutes.
 

After the restore process completed, you can see that the backed up VM is running on your VM host.
