Why do I need to pay for AhsayCBS
while my maintenance is still valid?

Before v7, we only charged our customers for the client software (AhsayOBM and AhsayACB) used. The AhsayOBS backup server software was provided free of charge. We only charged software maintenance based on AhsayOBM and AhsayACB. No maintenance fee had ever been charged for AhsayOBS. Based on such client-only charging model, it was impossible for us to allocate enough development resources in enhancing AhsayOBS to keep up with our partners' requirements in the MSP backup software market.

When developing the v7, we found that the underlying coding of AhsayOBS was out of date and it was difficult to add new features (e.g. cloud storage support, live monitoring, etc.) on it. Therefore, we decided to freeze its further development at v6.27. On the other hand, we decided to develop a brand new server side centralized management software with beefed up features and enhanced performance to ehnance our partners' competitiveness in the managed backup market. And that's why we have the new AhsayCBS. Why is this new AhsayCBS not free anymore? It's because we want to keep enhancing it, and that needs R&D funding. Only by making it a paid product can allow us to keep investing development resources into it for continuous features improvement, which in turn will enable our partners to stay competitive in the market.

Back to the question of why partners are not entitled to use AhsayCBS even with valid maintenance, it is actually a false claim. With valid maintenance on the type of software you purchased, you are entitled to get the related software upgraded to the latest version. Since the v6 maintenance fee you have paid is for AhsayOBM, AhsayACB, and some paid modules, you are entitled to get these AhsayOBM, AhsayACB, and the paid modules upgraded to v7. And since the v6 maintenance does not cover server side software, no free upgrade will be available from a free AhsayOBS v6 to a paid AhsayCBS v7. We think this commercial arrangement facilitates a fair choice to our partners who can depend on their own business models and decide whether they are more beneficial to upgrade to v7 with just a small AhsayCBS investment.

Since the enhanced AhsayOBM and AhsayACB v7 can only be connected to the new AhsayCBS, not the AhsayOBS v6, therefore you can't just get AhsayOBM and AhsayACB upgraded without connecting to a supported server side software.
